Best Areas to Stay in Samarkand
Samarkand City Center
Tashkent Road in Samarkand's city center passes through most of the major tourist attractions in the city. Spanning from the famous Registan, past the Bibi-Khanym mosque to the Hazrat Khizr mosque close to the Shah-i-Zinda complex.
It's not the best area for restaurants but has hotels for all budgets within walking distance of Samarkand's main landmarks.
East Samarkand
The area east of Samarkand's University Boulevard is still within walking distance to the city center but is home to many more hotels, restaurants and bars.
This area is excellent for mid-range hotels, some with swimming pools. It's just a short walk or taxi to the Amir Temur mausoleum 'Gur-i-Emir Complex'.
Silk Road Samarkand Resort
The Silk Road Samarkand Resort offers eight 4 and 5-star hotels for luxury stays in Samarkand. The resort features numerous bars and restaurants, with many hotels offering pools, spas, and fitness centers.
The resort is just a 20 minute taxi outside of the city center, making it easy to visit the city's attractions.
South Samarkand
The area just south of the Registan is more of a residential area but contains many cheap hotels and hostels among its backstreets.
While there are fewer restaurants in this area, it is ideal for budget travelers since the city center is just a 20-minute walk or a 5-minute taxi ride away.
