Best Areas to Stay in Bukhara

Lyab-i Hauz

Lyab-i Hauz

One of the most beautiful areas in Bukhara's old town is 17th century Lyab-i Hauz, a small plaza encircled by religious buildings and featuring a square-shaped pool at its center.

The area is packed full of historical landmarks, restaurants, and some of Bukhara's most splendid boutique hotels are located just a few minutes from Lyab-i Hauz.

Bukhara Old Town

Khakikat Street

Khakikat Street is the most central part of the city and connects Lyab-i Hauz with the Po-i-Kalyan mosque. It starts and ends at the two most popular trading domes, Toqi Zargaron and Toqi Telpakfurushon.

Hotels in this area are slightly more expensive but there are also a couple of cheap options just off the main street.

Registan Square

Registan Square

Registan Square was once a bustling center for trade, located right in front of the Ark of Bukhara fortress. Today it is a tourist hotspot with carts transporting tourists and a couple of camels available for photos.

Though there are fewer hotels, the area offers easy walking access to Bolo Hauz Mosque, Ismail Samani Mausoleum, and Chashmai Ayub Mausoleum.

Chor Minor

Chor Minor

The area just east of the old city, home to the quirky Chor Minor Madrasah, is a quiet residential maze of backstreets with a number of excellent boutique hotels. This area is particularly peaceful.

The area is just a 10-minute walk from Lyab-i Hauz and is an excellent spot for dining and drinks, with many lesser-known but high-quality restaurants nearby.
